SOLVED ANSWER

1. Where is your hometown?
My hometown is Jalandhar, a city in the state of Punjab, in northern India. It’s one of the oldest cities in the region, with a lot of historical and cultural importance. Many people know it for its sports industry—especially cricket equipment—as well as for its educational institutions.

2. Is it a big city or a small town?
I would describe it as a medium-sized city. It’s not as huge and crowded as Delhi, but it’s definitely bigger and busier than a typical town. We have modern facilities like shopping malls, universities, and hospitals, yet you can still find traditional markets and farming communities around the outskirts.

3. What do you like most about your hometown?
What I like most about Jalandhar is its sense of community and strong cultural identity. People are very warm and welcoming, and festivals like Baisakhi and Diwali are celebrated with a lot of enthusiasm. I also enjoy the fact that the city is famous for sports goods. For example, many international cricket players use bats made in Jalandhar, which makes me feel proud.

4. Has your hometown changed much over the years?
Yes, it has changed significantly. When I was younger, the city was more traditional, with small markets and fewer modern facilities. But now, it has become much more urbanized—new shopping malls, multiplexes, and modern housing complexes have been built. However, one thing that hasn’t changed is the love for Punjabi culture—people still enjoy folk music, bhangra, and traditional food.

5. What do people in your hometown usually do for work?
There are several industries. Many people are involved in the sports manufacturing sector, producing cricket bats, hockey sticks, and other equipment that’s exported worldwide. Others work in agriculture, since Punjab is known as the “food bowl of India.” In addition, there are growing opportunities in education, healthcare, and small businesses.

6. Is your hometown a good place for young people to live? Why/why not?
Yes, in many ways. Jalandhar has good schools, universities, and sports academies, so young people can pursue both academics and athletics. It’s also relatively affordable compared to larger cities like Chandigarh or Delhi. However, some young people prefer moving out for better career opportunities or for a more vibrant nightlife, which Jalandhar still lacks to some extent.

7. Would you say your hometown is more traditional or modern?
I would say it’s a blend of both. In the city center, you’ll see modern shopping complexes, international brands, and cafes. But at the same time, people strongly hold on to Punjabi traditions. For instance, many families still gather for large communal meals, and cultural events like kabaddi matches and Lohri celebrations are very popular. So, it has both a modern and a traditional flavor.

8. Do you think you will continue to live in your hometown in the future? Why/why not?
It really depends on my career path. On one hand, Jalandhar is a comfortable place with family support, a familiar lifestyle, and a close-knit community. On the other hand, I may have to move to a bigger city or even abroad for better professional opportunities. Ideally, I’d like to come back later in life, because Jalandhar offers a peaceful environment and a strong sense of cultural belonging.
